So you've recently been to a dentist, and after having done your exam and x-rays, they're telling you now that you need to have your tooth extracted or, in other words, pulled. So you may be be asking, "Why is that?" Here I want to discuss some of the common reasons of why you may need to have your tooth extracted. Reason number one, you have a very large cavity on this tooth, and now this tooth can no longer be restored or saved. Reason number two, you've been to an orthodontist, and they're wanting to have a couple teeth or one tooth extracted because they want to create some space in order to straighten your teeth. Reason number three, you may have a failed restoration or infection on a tooth, like a failed root canal therapy. Reason number four, you have a cracked tooth or restoration, and now the tooth can no longer be restored. And last reason, reason number five, you either have gum disease or a lot of bone loss around that tooth, and it's no longer worth saving this tooth. Sometimes when we have a tooth extracted, depending on the location and where this tooth location was, you may want to consider having this tooth replaced with an implant or dental bridge. Please watch some of our videos in our video library that discuss these topics. This is Dr. Sasan Khodabakhsh with Summit Point Dental Implant Center.
