Our Sedation Options
Sedation Dentistry at Summit Point Dental Implant Center
Are you anxious when visiting a dentist?
We understand some patient’s nervousness has kept them from coming going to the dentist. At Summit Point Dental Implant Center, your comfort is our highest priority. At Summit Point Dental Implant Center, we offer three different sedation kinds based on the treatment needed and your level of anxiety. The most common type of dental sedation we offer is nitrous oxide, commonly called laughing gas. If you require a higher level of sedation, we also offer conscious sedation and IV sedation. We want you to feel at ease to do your dental treatment, and therefore sedation dentistry will allow you to do just that!
Here is more information about our three types of sedation that we offer at Summit Point Dental Implant Center:
Nitrous Oxide or Laughing gas
Nitrous Oxide, also known as laughing gas, offers a light level of sedation for dental treatment. It allows you to relax during your procedure while you remain conscious. During the treatment, you breathe nitrous oxide through the mask that goes over your nose. The nitrous oxide wears off immediately when you are done with your dental treatment so that you can drive home by yourself.
Oral Conscious Sedation
At Summit Point Dental Implant Center, we offer oral conscious sedation. It is stronger than nitrous oxide because you take medication when you come to our office, and you will be very sleepy during treatment. You will also have little to no memory of your dental treatment. We will continuously monitor your vitals during your dental treatment. You will be conscious enough to follow instructions during your dental treatment but will be feeling sleepy. For this type of dental sedation, you won’t be able to drive yourself. You will need to arrange your transportation to and from the office. You must make sure you have not eaten or drank anything past midnight the night before your dental treatment.
IV Sedation
For more complex and more extensive procedures like wisdom teeth extractions, quadrant dentistry, dental implants, and All-On-4 dental implants, Dr. Khodabakhsh recommends you get IV sedation to achieve a deeper level of sedation. A licensed anesthesiologist administers IV sedation, and they administer the drugs through the vein on your arm. You will not be conscious during the treatment, and you need to arrange your transportation and plan to stay home after your dental treatment. You must make sure you have not eaten or drank anything past midnight the night before your dental treatment.
