The Power of Dental Crowns

Before Crowns
After Crowns
This patient had worn, discolored, and gapped teeth. Dr. Khodabakhsh placed dental crowns at our McKinney office to completely transform his smile.

Do You Need a Reliable Restoration That Looks Completely Natural?

At Summit Point Dental Implant Center in McKinney, we are dedicated to providing superior dentistry and personalized care. Our crowns can provide many benefits, including:

In cases of severe decay, fillings can't offer the level of protection provided by a dental crown. A crown is often the best way to restore a tooth that has been significantly compromised by decay or trauma.

Dr. Sasan Khodabakhsh at Summit Point Dental primarily uses zirconia for his restorations. Zirconia has superior strength and durability, as well as excellent aesthetics.

A Natural Appearance

Our practice uses advanced 3D scanning and a variety of restoration materials, such as zirconia and porcelain, to create dental crowns that are natural-looking in both color and shape.

How Are Crowns Placed?

After removing a small amount of enamel, a crown can fit precisely over a natural tooth. In addition to treating problems like decay or trauma, dental crowns are also ideal for replacing missing teeth and concealing numerous cosmetic concerns.

Do You Need to Replace
a Missing Tooth?

Implant-supported crowns are today's preferred method of replacing missing teeth. This is because implants are the only solution that also halts the deterioration of the jawbone that occurs when teeth are lost.

Dr. Khodabakhsh at Summit Point Dental Implant Center in McKinney has advanced training in dental implants and a proven track record of patient satisfaction.

Don't Wait Too Long

A tooth that has been weakened by decay or trauma is susceptible to even more damage, which could require an extraction and the additional costs associated with replacing a tooth. We offer same-day appointments at Summit Point Dental Implant Center in McKinney, TX.

Nervous About Dental Care? We Make It Easier With Sedation

Sedation options allow our McKinney patients to comfortably receive the dental care they need. If you have a sensitive gag reflex, have trouble sitting still, feel anxious about dental procedures, or need extensive care, you may be a good candidate for sedation. Our options include:

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is a light form of sedation that's administered through a nose mask. The gas helps keep dental patients calm while allowing them to stay alert during their procedure. Once the nose mask is removed, the effects wear off quickly, so patients can drive themselves home after treatment.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral conscious sedation is a prescription medication that's taken about an hour before a dental procedure to induce a deeper feeling of relaxation than nitrous oxide can provide. It can take many hours for the effects of oral conscious sedation to completely wear off. A trusted friend or family member will have to drive you to and from your appointment should you receive this form of sedation.

IV Sedation

Our strongest form of sedation, IV sedation is administered directly to the bloodstream. It's fast-acting and adjustable, so our team will be able to keep you perfectly comfortable throughout your procedure. Like oral conscious sedation, IV sedation has effects that can take several hours to completely subside, so someone will have to drive you home.

Yes! Dental crowns are eligible for insurance coverage when used for restorative purposes, like protecting a broken tooth or restoring form and function after a root canal. However, crowns used for purely cosmetic reasons, like masking stained teeth, are not.

We Use High-Quality Restoration Materials for Durable, Beautiful Dental Crowns

Selecting a restoration material that offers the right balance of durability and beauty is an art. Dr. Khodabakhsh is skilled in designing restorations made from a variety of materials, including porcelain and porcelain that has been fused to metal. However, like many dentists skilled in using advanced techniques, he favors zirconia over porcelain for its beauty and strength.

Because each restoration material has its own pros and cons, Dr. Khodabakhsh will carefully explain all your choices.

Same-Day & Traditional Dental Crowns The Treatment Timeline

We make treatment convenient and stress-free at Summit Point Dental Implant Center in McKinney. In most cases, we can design and create your dental crown in one visit. However, depending on the material you choose, your crown may require two visits. During your consultation, Dr. Khodabakhsh will perform an exam and discuss your options, such as porcelain or zirconia, based on the tooth and its location.
We use advanced technology and offer multiple sedation options to fulfill our promise of superior comfort for each and every patient.

The tooth will be treated to remove decay and infection. If decay has reached the interior of your tooth, a root canal will be necessary to remove the infected soft tissue. Your tooth will then be shaped to make room for the crown.

Using advanced 3D technology, your dentist will take digital impressions of your mouth so we can design your custom-fit restoration. Patients overwhelmingly prefer our digital scans to goopy impression material, which is unpleasant if you have a sensitive gag reflex. Digital scans are also more accurate.

If we are creating a same-day dental crown, we will mill it in our office while you wait. If you are getting a traditional crown, you will need to wait about two weeks while we have the restoration created in an offsite lab. To protect your tooth until then, we will place a temporary crown.

Once your dental crown has been fabricated, our dentist will test the fit and make any adjustments that are necessary to ensure it sits comfortably in your mouth. Once both of you are satisfied with the fit and aesthetics, Dr. Khodabakhsh will secure your restoration in place.

A Deep Dive Into Dental Implants

Dental implants are a prime choice for tooth replacement. If you're receiving dental implants as part of your dental crown treatment, you will have to complete the implant surgery before we create your crown.

In this procedure, Dr. Khodabakhsh makes an incision in the gums and places an implant in the jawbone. Once the implant fuses with the bone tissue, an abutment can be placed onto the implant. This device connects the implant to the crown. Placing the abutment requires a minor surgery that involves incising the gums. Once the gums heal, Dr. Khodabakhsh can create and place your permanent crown.

Very friendly, knowledgeable, and personable staff. Really cool scanning gear; They basically make a full 3d scan of your teeth, and you can see every little part of your teeth. They did an amazing job cleaning my teeth and whitening them. I will be getting 4 crowns, and some small cavities filled in the near future.
